Simply fascinating, Jack. A scene from the side of a road becomes a conceptual pathway to Kurosawa's script. I also was taken by the "scarecrows," semblances of human forms. Sadly, a lone automobile brought me back to earth. (I'm going to need a separate folder for all of your images I've favorited.)

So properly titled! As your trademark continues to be so perennial, this is not only Akira Kurosawa's intended human reflection on the interpretation of the same thing. Here, in your photograph, there are hundreds of interpretations and avenues for the mind to wander. DG

Michael, Daniel - Thanks for the comment. As you have probably guessed, I am a big Kurosawa fan ((my all-time favorite film is Seven Samurai). I was travelling with my friend Yukihiro in Nara on a shooting safari when we passed these figures. I shouted at him to stop the car and trekked back to see them. I took a lot of shots of these "scarecrows" (I guess) but this is the one I liked the most. As you noticed, Michael, the car kind of throws a curve into the scene but then Rashomon is a movie replete with different versions of the truth. This photo didn't get too much notice, unfortunately; I think the glory days of PN are about over. A lot of old friends have left and the new group is more likely to push the "like" button than make a comment. It leaves me a bit disappointed since the main reason I'm on here is to make connections and share opinions with talented people such as you two guys. Just the three of us are responsible for about half the comments nowadays. I just shake my head. Finally, Daniel, did you happen to see the movie Roma by one of your countryman - and to my mind one of the great directors making movies today - Alfonso Cuaron. It was made for Netflix of all things and will have a theatrical release soon but you can see it on Netflix now if you want (although seeing it in a movie would be much better), It was the best movie I saw this year. The cinematography was incredible. Cuaron, wrote, directed, produced and filmed the movie himself and set the action in the Roma district of Mexico City where he grew up.. The guy's a real auteur. I was blown away by Gravity as well, his previous film.
