In many industrial cities in western Germany you'll find these small shops. They are open long after other shops have closed and offer primarily beverages, alcoholic drinks, tobacco and snacks.

@Holger, @Jack: many thanks for your comments - they confirm the ideas I had with this photo: there is a connotation to current festive season in the western world (though, despite the bright shop-sign, they all but festive placess...) and: I like "playing" with our visual perception - which is result not only of the image projected to our retina, but also of quite a lot of processing happening afterwards... so: how 'real' is what we perceive?
