I keep coming back to this picture and question what fascinates me about it. I guess it's the casual way we accept the ordinariness of this scene when the actuality is really something else, something quite extraordinary. It's the picture that brings that reality into sharp focus, the mottled underbelly of this curving anaconda of an overpass that dominates the composition, below which the traffic speeds along without a moment's notice. One of the functions of photography, I think, is to wake us up at least momentarily and remind us what a remarkable world we inhabit, a place of wonders through which we pass unawares, sleepers lost in their dreams.

Jack, a response I've provided a few times (or perhaps many times) in the past is that I've learned from you and others both to appreciate the ordinary things and events in my life, and to find ways to photograph them so that they lose a portion of their ordinariness. Again, thanks for that and your remarks here.
