Greg & Verena...Interesting mix with the donkey(very rare in this region),your faithful dog and I guess the milk producers for your cheese. What happens when you get snow...do they all stay inside?Salutations-Laurent

Laurent- yes, in decent weather, cold is not a problem, they prefer to go to pasture and eat fresh grass- much of our pasture is .5 mile through our woods, so we take them down in the am and bring them back at night. The donkey (Carla)is for protection against wild dogs and coyotes. The dog (Sandor- a Komondor) "helps" us do chores, but comes back with us and hangs out around the house or wherever we are. Goats hate rain and wet snow- if it's summer and they get rained on, it won't hurt them. But when it's cold and snowy they remain in their barn with hay and access to the area around it if they want to go out. even with snow on the ground, if the sun comes out, they will go out to stand in the sun and maybe chew on some sticks...

Greg & Verena..Never imagined the donkey in that protection role.Goats are not common in this area but I remember them from my time in Nigeria and Indonesia and their amazing survival capacity, particularly their ability to get to food and also to consume plastic(bags).Salutations-Laurent

I nice pastoral scene with life as it is in peace and harmony of nature. Donkey, goats, dog all together look so good and they are like a family, each one with his purpose. Indeed is very unusual that donkey is the guardian there and seems a good one.Sandor , my favorite is more with you for sure and I bet he has a very good life. I like me too goat cheese that is very tasty and I am lucky to have here from where to by a good natural one. All my best and light winter with not to much snow.

Radu- thanks. Yes, the donkey lives with the goats. They naturally hate dogs and will fight them (good kickers) It took along time for her to get used to Sandor- now they are best of friends. Glad you like goat's cheese - so good and good for you!!

Warren- thanks- yes, flowers, at least live ones, are rare now. We have had Komondorok on our farm since 1980, sometimes as many as 5 at a time when we had many more goats. They are a special breed and well suited to our needs. They are still fairly uncommon here- they prefer to be working, but some folks do make them house and "show" dogs- not recommended...
