I took this shot in Sebring, Florida (near Tampa and Orlando), on a friend's property. In fact, he was with me when I shot this. He suggested that I look carefully at a somewhat narrow path around the tree and a few feet in each direction from the tree. What I noticed was that the path is about a foot lower than the center area. He then told me that the first time he visited this particular spot, he picked up something that resembled part of a bowl. Not knowing how to explain its location, he called both state and county historians who subsequently examined the area. The artifact they examined may have been produced by a member of the Calusa Tribe, given the fact that the soil in the area is full of seashells. They told my friend that the center area may be a burial mound. Fortunately, its location remains a secret to anyone other than my friend and the historians.
