Michael, I like the flat yet delineated tone that you have used to render the image. There seem to be more than two layers with a lot of complexity going on inside the man’s head, that bears a connection with memory and life history (whereas my image was probably more about assimilation between the organic and inorganic). However the connection is not easy to describe in plain terms, which could have been easier if there were more familiar scenes in the underlying layers as there are in movies. That’s great, because then it would have been more cliched, while now it’s on the verge of being pure abstract, but not completely so. The viewer is pushed or challenged to use their fullest imagination in experiencing this image with tantalizing cues of familiarity, while not hand holding till the end. As for the assessment of pure forms, I like how the flower petals resemble the man’s left eye, forming a radiating focal point. Also, the diagonal line traversing the image compliments the man’s shoulder, while the two curved leaves on the top left compliment the curved profile of the head. Such complimentarities in my opinion are critical for the cohesiveness of the scene, so that the complexity can be experienced in its own merit instead of being a distraction. I don’t know if the oblong aspect ratio was intentional, but I am not sure if it helps the scene without comparing with a non-elongated version. It is great to see such creative works posted on PN, because everyone deserves to be taken out of their comfort zones, photog and viewer alike.
