Pierre Dumas 261 Posted June 14, 2018 Nice life photo or street photo as it's categorized here! Story telling and nice grey tones! Well done, Jack! PDE Link to comment
DGorinstein 20 Posted June 15, 2018 Of this very sharp, clear and beautifully contrasted BW foto, I am not sure the heavier guy is convinced that the owner (?) has actually "everything" for bathrooms. One thing I am sure he does not have: a pure gold water spout for Trump's bathroom, since it appears that a Mexican plumber was servicing Air Force One and though that "that" spout would go well in his bathroom. I sincerely hope you had a good time in Italy, and as always, you manage to find the "less travelled" photographic subjects, precisely depicting another culture and another country. Bravo as always. Best regards. DG Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted June 15, 2018 Hi Jack, this photo could have been taken in any major Italian city (it's probably Rome or Naples) at any point in time if the cars wouldn't be in it. It's really timeless and about as Italian as it gets. Very good crop and contrast, well done. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
Zbigniew Tyburczy - ZT 6 Posted June 16, 2018 Very well organized street shot! ...And the most important-timeless work with its own mood, Very Italian one... ZT, Link to comment
smooth 285 Posted June 20, 2018 Excellent street shot and it's definite a documentary image of small business slowly fading away. Link to comment
_bb 0 Posted December 25, 2018 Hi, I would prefer vertical composition here, captured from spot ca 2 meters closer to second street (or - contrary - directly on shop door level to have insight). but that's just me. p.s. nice film-like tonality Link to comment
_bb 0 Posted December 26, 2018 by the look at your sony camera, it has one great advantage - the tiltable lcd display - allowing photographer to take picture from almost waist/ belly level (as in good old yashica, flexaret time) hence not disturbing the“subject” of the frame. and you clearly used that to your benefit here. consequently, the old shop owner will remain a picturesque character.too bad it’s not a film camera (-, cheersBoris Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted December 26, 2018 Boris, thanks a lot for your comment. You are a much too infrequent visitor to PN nowadays. I'd sure like to see some of your new work. Your right about the tillable LCD display. It's very convenient in situations like this where subjects are more likely to notice and react to the traditional photo taking stance. As for film vs digital, yeah, I agree with you but a dark room is impossible in my rather small apartment. I actually have three or four film cameras that were my dad's but the cost of taking pictures with them is just too expensive for me. I have to agree with you though, that the quality of film photographs is superior to that of digital. Perhaps if you want to spend a lot of money you can narrow the gap but that is beyond me, I'm afraid. Thanks again for your visit. This picture was taken on my first and only visit to Roma, earlier this year. Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted January 21, 2019 "Everything for Bathrooms"? Jack, is that really the subject of your image or the storyline? Great tonal values and DOF, a lot to hold the viewer's interest. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted January 21, 2019 Dave - That's a literal translation of the sign above the store. Thanks for the comment and question. Link to comment
