frigo 4,155 Posted April 12, 2018 These boats are not going anywhere with the 4-ft deep ice keep them prisoner.Salutations-Laurent Link to comment
gregverena 339 Posted April 13, 2018 this looks even more threatening in BW than in color! Were these guys in the water (ice) all winter? or just mis calculated when it was time to launch? Does the ice not harm the hulls? Link to comment
setsail728 15 Posted April 14, 2018 Fabulous shot!! Not exactly Roald Amundsen’s ship frozen into Antarctic sea ice, but the impression is the same!! It’s a scene of virtual “hibernation” until the ice melts. Another great photo from you! Bravo! Link to comment
frigo 4,155 Posted April 16, 2018 Hi Warren...Yes...my road to the scene is not quite the same. These boats are frozen at wharf and here at mid-April,the ice is causing a major impact on the fishing season and even the presence of an ice-breaker to open the way and the hovercraft to break the ice sheet, these efforts to get these boats out early in an effort to minimize the conflicts with the whales in the gulf seem to fall short.Salutations-Laurent. frigo 4,155 Posted April 16, 2018 Greg & Verena..B/W does make it more dramatic as you note.Yes,some of these spend the winter in the ice and their steel hull can take it.The tricky thing is to tie them so that they stay afloat straight until they are seized by the ice.The near boat has a significant tilt as a few of the othe boats tied here indicating that the freeze came when they were out of tilt;another key thing is to have the bilt pumps working properly as any breakdown can be desastrous.Salutations-Laurent Link to comment
