There's an interesting feeling of energy here that works really well, and I can't figure out where it's coming from....maybe from a sense that the blues on the left are ocean and sky seen through a portion of a window, but a window with a painted view. And maybe it's from the realization that the image poses a lot more questions than answers, and that invites my imagination to run wild as it wanders through the possibilities...aha!

The thumbnail froze me. I had to see. Only from an artist with a perfected sense of form and the miracle in the ordinary. Brilliant work, Jack.

This is what happens when the entire world is flopped on to its left side. (The rollers gave it away.) Flopped or not, there's something very mechanical about this image. Yet I'm comforted by how it treats a gestalt of objects. Great to see new work from ya, Jack. - - michael

Welcome back! No sooner you post a photo, old friends from PN immediately recognize the very personal trademark of Jack McRitchie! It's great to "picture" you walking around the streets, trying to capture something odd that up until then was totally irrelevant, lets say, "invisible", only for you to make it not only visible but relevant enough to raise eyebrows. A sense of abandonment, a sense of rapidly advancing time, a derelict of a recent era but abruptly becoming old. Rust and paint still together, not deciding who will win. And the jagged metal in the center and at the top, also competing with the metal that still has some structure. And then, the overall composition, a rare find with architectural geometry....It gives me the chills to think of the switches for an electric chair....Whatever it is, it is a delight to see you challenging the minds of your viewers. All the best! DG

Leslie, Wayne, Michael, Daniel,.....Thanks for the comments. It's good to be back on PN and talking with old friends again. Leslie, your comment catches much of my own thinking especially in regards to the blue rectangle which reminded me of freedom and new avenues (of escape?). Wayne, the ordinary is a gold mine if you can just see it. That's always the challenge, to break free from our judgments and preconceptions. Michael, you sly dog; I can put nothing past you. Daniel, always to effusive in your praise. I sent you an e-mail a couple of days ago but I'm not sure if it was delivered or not. Did you get it? If you didn't, I'll re-send it.

Hi Jack: You are a person from whom we all have something to learn, so what I write is as objective as I possibly can. Got your message and duly responded to it...although it is a bit long! Sorry! DG

One more thing - - You may not be aware of this, but the image was selected for POTD. (I endorse the selection, for whatever it's worth.)

Jack, I don't know what it is you have, but, if you could bottle it and sell it, it would make a fortune. As is so often the case, I can't even begin to tell you what I like about this photo, except that it has a certain orderliness that gives meaning to something that I would otherwise have overlooked. Let me ponder this a while and get back to you. . . . --Lannie

This one immediately caught my eye. Great work and observation. There are both gross and fine elements, the intrigue of the minute (the mechanical bits) and the lure of the universal (the blue ocean and sky) flanked by the arch on the left. The mangled metal on the left corner just manages to bring it back from being a pure abstract.

Jack, this is an image I have missed the past year most. A real Jack McRitchie, brain food and tantalizing the mind. A part of a robotic machinery, doing nondescript things. I have to guess. The new possibilities are left to my fantasy to discover. But they only give me some nightmare scenarios.
