'On-The-Fly' Grand River, Ontario.

LenMarriott

Closing out the Brown Trout season on the Grand River. Backlight is a friend for shots like these. 1/250 f11 handheld. Scanned from 4x6 print. Slightly sharpened in PS. Best, LM.

Comments on how to make this shot stronger will be very much

appreciated. Giving ratings only, is for lazy people. Come on, put

your thinking caps on. Best, LM.

Very nicely metered in a difficult-to-meter situation. Your image quality is certainly better than what I was able to upload.

You've captured the area perfectly. I went to U of Guelph and spent many an weekend afternoons on the patios of Elora. This particular shot is my favourite but your portfolio as a whole is fantastic.

S. Tamson, The fact that you chose this shot to comment on tells me you went the extra mile and dug deep into my portfolio and I thank you for that. The fisherman is my brother-in-law who recently (Sep. '05) caught a brown trout in excess of 24" and 7 lb. at this location with his trusty fly fishing gear. Even from this angle you could have seen his smile! Being in a 'catch-and-release' area, the fish will live to be caught (hopefully) another day! Apart from his position in the frame, which I suppose was a subconscious habit, what intrigued me at the time was the backlighting and the way it highlights the fly line. One of my favourites. Best, LM.

Absolutely superb! no more needs to be said, except that from reading your response I'd love to see some shots of the fish...

Thanks for your visit and your comment. Show the fish? Well, if I were to do that the sense of mystery would be diminished ! :-) Besides, any fisherman worth his gear would do this day in and day out whether he actually landed a fish or not. No images to prove it (a catch-and-release location) but this particular fisherman landed a 24" Brown Trout here and happily revealed to me that it was the largest Brown he'd ever landed. He was about 70 years old. It must have been true since, if you look real close, you'll see the smile, starting at his left ear, that was on his face even though he is turned away from the camera. Best, LM.

Thanks for the quote. That was one of this gentleman's favourite movies. (can't figure out why though. :-) ) Best, LM. P.S. I'm pleased and honored that you have chosen this image as one of your 'Favorites'. LM. 26 March 2010

Capturing the moment as well as perfect metering and beautiful natural scenery have been mixed together to create a perfect shot. I really like everything about it. Your whole portfolio is great, but this particular shot is one of my favorites.

Regards, Mehrdad.

One of my favourites too as the subject is my late Brother-in- law who was an avid fisherman.  Over the years we spent many days at this location, he fishing and me photographing.  After 7 years I still miss his company.  Thanks for digging through my oldies to comment on this gem.  Best, Len.
