When painting I treat mistakes as surprises that I can either accept or reject. Most of the time I end up accepting in one way or another. I am learning in painting digitally, the surprises are still there.

Nice light in the city... I would have liked to see more details in the darks

I do a lot of digital painting using many combinations of filters etc. I imagine what I want and "try" to get there. Often times big surprises appear on the screen. Many times I like what the surprises show me more than what I was striving for!! It's fun doing it.
