From a recent field trip to Algonquin Park, On.

LenMarriott

Spotted on walking tour of this spruce bog in Algonquin Park. Tripod used. Hyperfocal, f11 @ Auto exposure. Scanned from 4x6 prints. Negs. tack sharp. Note the sky didn't fare as well with the use of the Polarizer as the water. Don't know why that is. Will darken the sky in PS when I learn how. Best, LM.

Self Critique: If I could do it over I would use NPH or Reala as I

feel Superia 200 is too contrasty for sunlit scenes. Can't figure

why the sky wasn't affected more by the polarizing filter. It

affected the water as expected. Also, next time, I'll back it up with

a horizontal version. OK, now you have a go! Best, LM.

If you concentrated to eliminate light in the water with the polarizer it might not work in the sky due to a different angle. Sometimes you cannot eliminate light from all surfaces at the same time. However I think the caption is very good. The leaves in the foreground does much to the composition and the colors are just great. Congratulations.

Hi Len,

I like the composition. You are a master of that! I can't help you with the polarizer question. A ND Grad might have darkened the sky enough to enhance the blues but might have been noticeble in the tops of the trees. Maybe try the grad filter effect in the photoshop book to darken the top a bit. Greg

Spruce Bog! Wow, it's a wonder we didn't run into eachother! Beautiful photo, excellent, probably one of the best representations of this trail, Congrats.

To darken sky in PS, you may want to try this. Use the magic wand tool to select the sky area (it may not be perfect, but it should do the job), once selected, you should be able to adjust contrast/brightness/etc. I don't frequently use PS, so forgive me if I'm way off.
