Wow, I hope everyone either has a generator or somewhere to go and stay.  An excellent documentary but a troubling sight... Mike

Mike,

This was on Day 1 when we woke up to the situation.I took this on my way to town to stock up on fuel for my small generator....like everybody else but power was off and we could finally get fuel after a three hour rally(one way) under and over fallen lines.Gas stations quickly ran out of gas or just couldn't pump what they had;stores quickly ran out of gas cannisters,credit/cash cards couldn't be used and cash outlets sustained the same faith as gas stations. At the peak, some 200,000 clients were out of power and today the 11th day, close to 6,000 are still waiting, most in this area hit hardest by the storm.Monique and I moved in the family room in the basement with the generator alternating between a small heater and the water pump and enough power for cooking/TV/radio;generator was shut off at night and search for fuel was the biggest daily occupation with the camera handy for a few shots. We were good compared with a lot of our compats whom suffered from the shutdown even if crisis centers popped open in most villages with volunteers aplenty with the support of the army as state of Emergency was declared especially as the temperatures dropped below -20C in the last few days.Sadly,a few deaths and many serious intoxications from using BBQ and other inappropriate heating devices. We survived the infamous Quebec ice-storm of 1998 and now this almost 20 years later.....I think time has come for us to seek warmer places to spend winter.

Salutations-Laurent

Greg and Verena,

Thank you so much. All grid/distribution lines have now been restored on day 12 of the crisis;only a few remain without power from damage to home(client) installations. Not many local jobs created as re-instatement effort was by our NB-Power staff supported by neighbour provinces and US neighbour power authorities.People in need will get government $/Help to get back on their feet.

Salutations-Laurent
