Leslie Reid 5,205 Posted January 27, 2017 This image really caught my attention--I love how you've handled the light here. The silhouette of the gateway provides a center of interest both because it's a human element that invites the viewer into the frame, and because of its perfect placement against the bright background. The flashes of light from the foreground foliage and the leaves on the ground to my mind are the perfect accompaniment--they guide us toward the gate and bright background, while at the same time providing some "staccato" excitement. I also like the blue cast to the image--for a subject like this, I would have expected a warmer or neutral toning to be used; the cold tone introduces a little bit of edginess that goes really well with the high-energy foreground leaves and the mysterious darkness around the edges. It's evocative of moonlight, maybe, or something seen in a dream. Really nice! Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted January 27, 2017 An excellent study and a great critical appraisement from Leslie. I'll just say I subscribe to her words fully and leave it at that. Link to comment
