Maybe half-way between the two versions? Or even a quarter of the way? I think it just needs to be a hint of a slightly lighter pathway to draw the eye.  And it's interesting how lightening the foreground snow made it so noticeably a bluer, colder color--it makes sense, since it's out of the direct illumination, but it hadn't been so evident when it was darker. I wonder if it might be useful to add a touch of the magenta in the lightened part to make it relate more closely to the sky colors. It's quite possible that the patches of lightened reflection in the water might provide enough of a path from foreground to background even without lightened snow.

This is great, Colin. The mood is great as it fees peaceful yet eerie. The sky is great. There is a lighter patch around a third way up and that keeps me interested leading up to the light at the foot of the mountains. Well seen well captured. Regards, LAwrence

Colin,  To start with, you have a well composed image here with an excellent foreground leading the eye to the mountain and sky.  I applaud you for the image and have no problems with it.  I'd prefer the mountain a tad sharper.  The question is whether the image communicates your message.  It looks a bit surreal for me, but you are the jury here, not me.  This is well captured and presented.  Nice job.  Larry

I love B & W but must confess the colour version looks great. Maybe a bit lighter sky overall, but that's just personal taste!

Great range of images from Scotland!  Very well done!
