I went back and forth between the color and monochrome versions, and I like them both for different reasons. This one unlocks the very intriguing foreground more for the viewer, and the stream here does lead my eye to the mountain; as a viewer, I'm exploring the entire image more actively than in the color version. Here the foreground is slightly lighter than the mid-ground hills, and I think that helps propel the viewer into the image. On the other hand, I really like the moodiness that the colors give the other image--I think the color version ultimately wins for me, but only by a hair. 

I like that this is black and white.  I think it adds to the mood of the image.  The soft sky is a great contrast to the rocks and shadows of the stream.  I higher contrast may have brought that out more???  The composition is really nice.  I think it is a really good photo.

Colin,  Excellent image.  I agree with the others comments.  I might try a little more contrast too - in the foreground rocks.   Larry
