M_Lipakis 2 Posted January 14, 2017 When temperature drops near, or below, the freezing point, and the sea is still relatively warm, water evaporates and creates steam over the surface which is sometimes drawn upwards creating vortices called Steam Devils. Heraklion, Crete on Janauary 8th, 2017. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted January 15, 2017 Shades of J.M.W. Turner, the great early 19th Century English painter, master of the ocean seascape and nautical pictures. I remember seeing these waterspouts when I was in the Navy. Always an impressive sight and you have captures the unsettled mood here perfectly. Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted January 15, 2017 Hi Michail, you captured a very interesting phenomenon resembling the tornado. I have seen something similar with dust in the autumn fields. Best regard. Peter Link to comment
Leslie Reid 5,205 Posted January 15, 2017 Wow--this is an amazingly evocative image. Steaming sea, columns of mist--there's a powerful feeling of drama here, and the handling of the colors and tonal values here really amplifies that feeling...I think for the first time I'm really understanding Homer's wine-dark sea. And like Jack, I also immediately thought of Turner, an artist whose work I like a lot. But this image gets to me even more than Turner does because yours is so closely tied to reality--a seething Turner seascape that actually exists. It literally sent shivers up my back when I saw it, and I don't think a photo has ever done that to me before. Link to comment
Efren 0 Posted January 22, 2017 Amazing. It is like a picture that there transmits the whole fury of the tornado, reinforced by the shades. Congratulation. Regards. Link to comment
morophaenixmau 0 Posted January 23, 2017 Wonderful capture. Unfortunately scenes as these will be frequent more and more. Have you seen also here in Italy what it is happening? We don't respect the rules of the nature and nature finds new dangerous equilibriums for the man. Link to comment
