Large view preferred for detail. Shapes, textures, or clutter? All are part of

the design in this Bogota cityscape in the historic Candelaria barrio. I saw

layers of history among the bricks. Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks. Larry

That's a fantastic mix of textures and colours. Cleverly composed. Well seen and done!

Best regards,

I like it a lot, Larry--there's a lot going on, but it doesn't read to me as clutter. I'm particularly enjoying how the staccato intricacy of fairly monochromatic textures in the foreground transitions into the more sedate intricacy of pastel colors in the background. I think what ties foreground and background together here is that the scale of the variation is similar. I'd played in my mind with separating it into two images, but neither half was nearly as satisfying (and playful!) as the full composition. It's an image that rewards the viewer's explorations--after contemplating it for about 10 minutes, I'm still finding new details to enjoy.

Wonderful photo. A photographic archeological dig! Great contrasts, colors and stories.

Alain,   Thanks for your visit.  This image brings together the story of Candelaria, the oldest neighborhood in Bogota.  The levels of construction materials along with the graffiti and old colonial buildings tell the tale.   Larry

Leslie,  Thanks for your thorough analysis of this image.  I originally left it out of my collection of Colombia images, but decided that it deserved PN subscribers' perusal.  Larry

Henry,  Thanks for weighing in on this image.  This is a view outside of our hotel window, but it does look like an archeologist's dig.  I appreciate your thumbs up.  Larry

Hi Larry, this is a wonderfully composed shot full of interesting details and layers. Carsten Ranke would likely call it order in chaos. Best wishes. Peter

Emanuel,  Thanks for your visit and comment.  I also appreciate your following me on PN.  I have actually been going easy on saturation and contrast lately.  Thanks again.  Larry

Emmanuel, Thanks for your visit and comment. There's often the urge to add saturation and color to images. I am trying to keep them natural without too much contrast. In this one I think the earthy tones of the bricks are important as is the variety and repetition in the different brick designs. Thanks, again. Larry
