Smoking next to a gas meter definitely could lead to a short life span. 

Looking to spark up his life.

Just imagine, a human being creative enough to leave a cigarette box on top of an utility meter!  I will urge all my friends who smoke to find used utility meters, and then to place it in their living rooms.  This will ensure that visitors who smoke will have a spot to discard their empty cigarette boxes.  Actually, this reminds me of the days when I was a heavy smoker, and not always a considerate one.

Thanks for the comments on this picture. I can't help but look at these meters as modern totems, a mixture of the technological and the atavistic. We don't have a great deal of respect for our "gods" and that little red trash bonnet someone left behind caught my attention. By the way, Michael, I'm an ex-smoker myself, at one time a two and a half pack a day habit. Those days are well behind me now.
