This is the tricky time of the ice take-over;punching through not only means getting wet but also very cold especially if you have some distance to walk back to a warm place.A few years back in this same spot,one foot got through and my boot got stuck in the ice.Luckily,this is less than a 1/4 mile from the house,but I remember the squishy walk back.

This was my first time out on the beach without Caramelle and I really missed her company;as pure reflex,I kept looking back to make sure she was not in any trouble or fallen into the water but mostly,I did not have to hold her back from making fresh tracks up ahead and spoiling the fresh surface.As you note,I know she is up there somewhere making tracks and I am sure she continues keeping an eye out on me on these lonely outings...just in case I get in trouble.
