This is on the trail to our cottage and I/we have gone by this several times during the summer and never noticed as it was hidden behind the leaves.Don't know what damaged it,maybe squirrels,Agree with you that you don't want to mess with this when occupied;years ago,I took one down from thev eve on my carport and I tell you,I was confronted with some angry customers.

This is a huge one after what I see,from time to time I found few of them in house loft under beam and is not at all a good idea to remove it when is with wasps inside,an before experience with a neighbor that moved one had the finality with him to hospital,so is better to let this in there place just to the moment they go.

You are totally right; I had a very bad experience of taking one down even after having sprayed it generously beforehand.
