Moon with Camera with So-called "one-inch" Sensor (Hand-held) VI

Landrum Kelly

Actually shot after midnight on October 22, but part of a sequence that started as early evening shots six days ago--date adjusted to October 21 here to show correct sequence, not actual date of shot.

No need to go to the moon any more - today's cameras and lenses virtually get us there. Nice shot, particularly given that it was hand held.

Thanks, Jim.

There has been a sharpness challenge in this series.  I typically shot at f/8, but when I stopped down to f/5.6 to get a faster shutter (to get a sharper image), I unfortunately got a much softer image due to the wider aperture.

As for going the other direction--going to, say, f/11--that simply was not an option on this camera.  One cannot stop down further than f/8!  The camera will not allow that. I think that that could be severely limiting in some situations in bright light.  Since the moon is in bright sunlight, it was arguably a problem here: I was routinely darkening it with exposure compensation.  No other viable option was available.

I wish that Nikon and Canon made telephotos that were made for APS-C cameras.  Having to use lenses made for full-frame cameras on the APS-C sensor cameras makes a really comfortable and convenient option impossible for long telephoto shots.  That is where Panasonic and Olympus are stepping in with some good lenses--some built in, some detachable.
