Granite Block, Ogimachi Koen

Very Zen, but with bricks. Quite a shot. One has to wonder if it would have had to have been secured with mortar (as it appears to be) in former days. Another culture metric from your acute eye!

Like the composition very much .

Like the simplicity, shape and shadows.

Such an intelligent manipulation of light and shades, shapes, volumes and lines. You fight the dictatorship of the "obvious" here Jack with guerrilla tactics.

You've given us photos over the past week or so that emphasize geometry, and this one does it blatantly and simply.  The way the sunlit parts of the cube cut into the shadow on the bricks, and how the cube's shadow falls across the sunlit bricks is nice.  The formal elements work together very well.  Probably the most interesting thing for me is the transformation of the three-dimensional cube into two-dimensions, first with the shadow, and again as an illusion of a cube on my screen.

Shadow light, black and white , house maker or tombstone marker.  It all depends! It all depends! 

A perfect photographic representation of a koan. It is exceptionally complex, yet Inestimably simple. It's up to the practitioner to discern one or the other.

Brilliance of thought and action ............

All symbolism and cultural baggage aside, that is a gorgeous piece of granite.  I want something like this in my back yard.
