Wonderful composition and color, Tony.  I can see that it's worth getting up early to get the mist.  I love how the spires of dark green spruce contrast the maple & birch.  On the downside, the image isn't as sharp as I'd expect.  Was this handheld?  I have the 70-300 but don't use it with the D810.  I find it gets weaker as it approaches 300.  However, it seems to works fine on the D7100 for wildlife and centrally focused images.  You might want to consider the 300mm f4.0 D ED (launched in 2000) for use on the D810.  I have a copy but don't use it much.  Thanks for posting this as a reminder that I should be using it!  Best, Jeff

Good to hear from you highlighting what you liked and where it could improved. The book on the 70-300mm nikkor is that the quality starts diminishing after 200 MM   I also appreciate the recommendation of the nikkor 300mm lens. I should rent one and see how it performs.  In the back of my mind I was thinking of the 180 f2.8 with 1.4TC.  I took another at this location with the Nikkor 70-300mm at 125 MM and sharpness is not an issue.

PS it was shot with my tripod.

Tony,

Very dramatic, this really pops.  I really like seeing your photos of locations that are so familiar to me, it is very inspiring.
