There's something about this picture, the straightforward way that you shot it, that brings me back to my youth. Those were simpler times when my ideals were purer and everyone respected men like these. Of course that's all in my own head but the picture does strike that chord with me.

we wonder what they are trying to plough? The plow doesn't look as sturdy as the turn plows we are used to, but can't imagine them doing anything else in those weeds!! (Yes, we have plowed fields with our own horses)

Thank you all for your comments.

Stop wondering Gregory/Verena, it's a representation of ploughing in a near by village. The plow is an original one and by this proccess they are (supposed) to mulch the weeds.

You see, where i live every square inch of soil matters and people  used to grow various faboideae under Olive orchards both to get an extra, critical sometimes food/income, and to improve soil quality.

This has all the qualities of an ageless timeless work, steeped in the traditional method of tilling the land. I think it would also look great in B & W or perhaps even sepia tones.

Thanks, Michail-  I see, they are plowing down legumes which provide nitrogen and is called "green manure" or cover crops. As you said, they could be food producing as well, like peas or beans. Our plows have wooden handles, which make them look heavier. The blade is similar. Very interesting. This is hard work, btw, not just for the horse either :)
