Tony Brandstetter 814 Posted October 9, 2016 Nicely done with a good flow about it, starting with the horse and the two men following and neat out of focus framing - Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 9, 2016 There's something about this picture, the straightforward way that you shot it, that brings me back to my youth. Those were simpler times when my ideals were purer and everyone respected men like these. Of course that's all in my own head but the picture does strike that chord with me. Link to comment
gregverena 339 Posted October 9, 2016 we wonder what they are trying to plough? The plow doesn't look as sturdy as the turn plows we are used to, but can't imagine them doing anything else in those weeds!! (Yes, we have plowed fields with our own horses) Link to comment
M_Lipakis 3 Posted October 10, 2016 Thank you all for your comments.Stop wondering Gregory/Verena, it's a representation of ploughing in a near by village. The plow is an original one and by this proccess they are (supposed) to mulch the weeds. You see, where i live every square inch of soil matters and people used to grow various faboideae under Olive orchards both to get an extra, critical sometimes food/income, and to improve soil quality. alfbailey 2 Posted October 10, 2016 This has all the qualities of an ageless timeless work, steeped in the traditional method of tilling the land. I think it would also look great in B & W or perhaps even sepia tones. Best Regards Alf Link to comment
gregverena 339 Posted October 10, 2016 Thanks, Michail- I see, they are plowing down legumes which provide nitrogen and is called "green manure" or cover crops. As you said, they could be food producing as well, like peas or beans. Our plows have wooden handles, which make them look heavier. The blade is similar. Very interesting. This is hard work, btw, not just for the horse either :) Link to comment
