Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 4, 2016 You took the title right out of my mouth. It's what occurred to me even from the thumbnail. Shades of Roswell, New Mexico! Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted October 5, 2016 Thanks for all the comments. Gail, it really is a water tower, but, yes, Michael and Jack, it really does look like an alien ship has landed just behind the house. Thank you also, Chris, Jorge, and Pierre for your comments. It really is right in the middle of a modest subdivision, immediately adjacent to houses on three sides. (It fronts on an ordinary residential street.) It actually does look like this. Yes, cropping might have made it look even closer, but this is a truly massive structure--but on short, squat legs. In the event of an earthquake (rare in these parts), the water from it would do a lot of damage, and the metal structure itself could, I believe, crush more than one house. In winter it can be seen from a number of nearby locations quite a distance away, and it does have a rather surreal look from any and all angles. --Lannie Link to comment
JPPhoto1664880217 5 Posted October 5, 2016 Nice capture. I assume some of the obscuration is due to fog? Jim Phelps Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted October 5, 2016 Thanks, Jim. I estimate the ceiling to have been about five hundred feet above the water tank--making the reflected light off the top of the tank indistinguishable from the white cloud ceiling. --Lannie Link to comment
