Leslie Reid 5,180 Posted September 22, 2016 Do the flares add or distract? Thanks for any comments! Link to comment
M_Lipakis 2 Posted September 22, 2016 I don't think i like them Leslie. They are not typical flares, more like an accumulation of bright spots on the island, sorry my friend. Link to comment
GerrySiegel 868 Posted September 23, 2016 Has a hazy mist quality I like. I would be eager to see more of the foreground left and right actually. Those boulders are volanic or covered in sea growth. Fancy stuff of mother nature. I like this spot. Link to comment
Leslie Reid 5,180 Posted September 23, 2016 Thanks, Michail and Gerry! This is exactly the sort of feedback I need! I’m still not quite sure what’s generating the odd flares—I think it may be tiny crystals of salt on the surface of the skylight filter. It has shown up twice now, both times on windy days with a little bit of mist on the beach, and after I’ve been out for awhile. So from here on I’ll keep the lens cap on between shots on days like that—I should be able to get the warm misty look without the flares. And thanks for the cropping suggestion, Gerry—I’ve got enough room on both sides to play with it some more. And this is one of my favorite spots—the rocks do look like those rugged Hawaiian volcanics, and you called it right by attributing the look to sea growth—it’s a combination of mussels, barnacles, and algae on some very tough sandstone and chert boulders.
