From this Point of View, you are only seeing a bit more than half of

the Lift Locks. There are 2 of these (what look like containers) - one

is always going in the opposite direction of the other when the

Hydraulics are in use. I hope to go back and get a better shot of the

Locks. I posted this one so the viewer could get some idea of the

other images I have posted previously. (posted under Digital

Alterations)

Hi Gail

Interesting that you should post these pics just as I have been thinking about a project to try to capture the motion of similar constructs in the UK eg the Falkirk Wheel in Scotland. This is very grand one. Hope you do return, perhaps try some long exposures?

Well done Gail, I like how you allow our eye to scan the image right to left with a good flutter on the flag.

It appears fall is starting with the amber tree on the left

A magnificent piece of engineering!  I love architecture born of necessity the two come together wonderfully well in this image. Great capture!

Best Regards

thanks Tony ! I was using my 200mm f2.8 and found it difficult to get a lot in the shot. I had not used it much and decided this was a place to give it a go.  I soon found that I had to get a good distance away to get very much in the image.  I should go back this week to see if there is any leaves left on that tree. Other trees here are just starting to change.

thanks so much Alf for your thoughts shared.  I have been on this lock once years ago - would like to take the Dinner Cruise that runs every day in the summer perhaps next year.  I read in a Toronto Newspaper that during the summer some folks tried 'dining under the locks'.......just under that portions that is raised up - tables and chairs were set up (on the opposite side I think) I'm not sure that I would feel real comfortable doing that - but sure was a novel idea :)
