I have had Topaze Filters for some time now but don't often use

them. Impression is one that I just haven't had the patience to stick

with long enough to see a result that pleased me. But tonight I was

determined to see if I could come up with something nice. I started

out in Impression, sampling many adjustments - found a combination

I liked. I then began to add a few Watercolour Textures in CS6, as

well as some Gentle Texture Type Overlays. Once I had adjusted

Blend Modes I arrived at this Composition. With Summer winding

down, I have not taken as many images; the heat has been

suffocating - but I want to dwell in the lovely, bright, Welcoming

Colours of Spring and Summer as long as I can.

Thanks so much Jamie. The actual image is fine - but it is not as soft - I really wanted a soft effect - like a water color.  I probably will post the original as well.  You really are exploring so much of Calderdale !  enjoying it so much. Take care, Gail

have a look for the pictures entitled, '(Watercolour Manipulation),' in my 'Searching for Theme' folder.

This dreamlike image brings back memories of exploring nature for the first time as a young boy. And I thank you for that Gail! :- )

A cool effect as if the upper petals are merging with the environment, softening and putting fragrance in the very colors of its surroundings.  I like the bit of greenery sticking straight up so sharply in contrast to the "floating away."

Lot of gold that comes from screen with this beauty gerbera flower, not an easy color to be caught.

Floating soft layers of petals with gentle light and warm colours, area's of more tangible sharpness blend seamlessly with soft transparencies and ethereal light

I think flower photography is without doubt the most difficult genre in terms of originality and fresh idea's, yet you seem to be able to reach depths of creation that produces images that I have never seen the like of before.

Very well done Gail!

Thank you so much for that thoughtful critique.  Yes, so many flowers look the same depending on POV and light - but I find it interesting if I can add to the aesthetics of an image from time to time.  It is kind of the same with insects.  I'm happy to hear you found merit in this composition.

thank you so much Radu. You are one of the ones that adds your own signature to your flower captures that is so telling and always so pleasing. Yes 'yellows' are not always easy to capture - I certainly have a bit of difficulty with them.

thanks so much Jack.  It was part me and part Topaze Impression and Texture - don't know really what I'm doing but did a 'slight' edit and it turned out not so bad.

thanks so much Tony - as for the upper left area - I was not going to try to remove this part of the flower arrangement - not too easy - only other thing I could do is crop more off the left and try to remove the other 2 green spires. Maybe when I have more time - good suggestion though.
