Fascinating. The 'tattered' edges imbue the image with age. My father was 'mustard gassed' in the trenches of France in WW I but survived.

Excellent processing - very effective with the tattered edges.  I like how you only let the one soldier be seen more clearly.  The house we live in - the previous owners - the man was in the trenches on D-Day (Canadian). An explosive went off near him - he lost his sight - well most of it - declared legally blind.  Our house is only 15 years old - they had all the hallways made wider for him - on the trim of each doorway you can see fingernail scratches that must have been made by him 'finding' his way around the house.  I have not yet painted over them - almost does not seem right.  He was a Morse Code Operator.  Even though blind he carved some of the most beautiful duck decoys - played cards and went Square Dancing with his wife every week.  When we first saw the house she had all of his medals and certificates hanging on the walls.  He had passed and she found it too hard to keep up the house.  Mind you she was in her 80's and I could hear in her voice that she missed him terribly.  She took up Morse Code and it was a hobby for them both - my office is where they had their 'set-up'. The wire was still going from the house to the big old elm in our backyard when we first moved in. So many brave men lost their lives on that day. We owe so much to them. Thanks for posting this one Tony
