Going through some old negs. Found a roll I did of this young woman

who was a co-worker of mine in 1980. She asked me to do some

portraits of her.

You captured the lady's glow.  That is the best part.  Excellent framing and modulation of the black and white tones.

thanks guys!  I have so many negatives its ridiculous!  As for the tonal range, I attribute that to the amazing Vuescan scanning software I've been using ever since I got my scanners about 10 years ago. Ed Hamrick has done a great job with this program.  I feel I am getting the full range of tonal values from my film with this program.  These old Tri-X negs look pretty good!

Tony, I tried Rodinal, but not the stand development process.  I always liked the look of D-76, and later I made my own D-23, influenced by Ansel Adam's books, which were my "bible."  D-23 was just metol and sodium sulfite and worked a lot like D-76 but a little less contrast.  As for the pretty girl here, I didn't know her well, so I don't know what she's doing today!

When I wanted less contrast i would use 1:100 dilution. The key was vigorous agitation at the beginning and very little agitation throughout the development. The theory is if you agitated you brought fresh developer to the highlight areas thus increasing the contrast. Boy have we come a long way. I still have some Agfa 25 ASA (long discontinued) in my freezer and wonder if i will ever use it.
