The crystals easily could be misidentified as pebbles or fish scales.  Regardless, I am impressed.  The image demonstrates that salt isn't as dense as meets the (ordinary) eye.  By the way, I'm interested in both your camera settings and the equipment you used.  Can you please supply this information?  Thanks.
