hstelljes 41 Posted August 7, 2016 I like this Michail, the tones and shadows are very eye catching, especially the person. The light hitting the ship gives us beautiful tones. The image is stark and dramatic as a result. Into my favorites with this one.Best Regards, Holger Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted August 7, 2016 The right time of day and the right shadow. The curving hull adds to the effect. Real nice work. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted August 8, 2016 IMO one of your best from the current ship series. It's like a scene from a Bogart movie or the cover for a mystery; it sets our imaginations racing. Really good stuff... Mike Link to comment
Leslie Reid 5,178 Posted August 8, 2016 I really like this image. I love how the shadow explains what we're seeing, in terms of (1) making the person visible, (2) helping us interpret the action, and (3) defining the shape of the hull so we can see that the backdrop is a ship--that's one powerful shadow. I'm also in awe of how perfect the timing of the capture was: the person's shadow is more effective here than it would have been had he been anywhere else on the ladder, and both feet are planted so both shadow feet are visible. I also enjoyed my path through the photo: my eye went first to the bright central highlight at its most contrasty section against the ladder shadow, then climbed the ladder shadow to discover the person shadow, then leapt over to the real ladder to discover the person--a slow reveal that's very satisfying and had me smiling. Really nice! Link to comment
M_Lipakis 2 Posted August 8, 2016 Thank you all for your comments. I go cycling almost every afternoon at this jetty (2,5 Kilometres long - 1,55miles) and every single day the light is different giving me unlimited oportunities for different images of the same subject - a ship tied up for months now with 19 ropes at the very end of the jetty. Every day i felt i was missing a photo with a sailor walking up the stairs, until yesterday. Link to comment
thadley 10 Posted August 9, 2016 I have had experience visiting the same local sight often and sometimes I am well rewarded and many times the reward was exercise with no images. Link to comment
