On a planet not very far and not very long ago, we would have been looking at a hard cover photo book with pages that were sticky and covered with cellophane. Go back to my father's generation and there was a black page photo album with each corner of a photograph secured by a sticky triangular 'envelope'.

Here, you will need to document that the object being held is a smart phone displaying images on a screen. I suppose the next thing will be holograms or a holodeck (a holographic Environment Simulator).

Great observation Tony - I finally got around to organizing my 4x6's, placing them in albums, scanning some. I have 25 freaking shoe boxes of them.

Funny, I have a TB back up, it currently has 25K images in it and I haven scratched the surface yet and it's smaller than a cigar box....

Love Tony's comment on this timeless picture celebrating that little thing we like to call "being human". You know how much I enjoy these seemingly ordinary run of the mill "snapshots", especially on a site so beholden to the latest gimmicks and "wow" shot. Keep them coming, maestro!

I remember those old black-paged photo albums, the pictures held in place by gummed corners.. When my mother died I was the only one interested in all those albums filled with smiling ghosts and nameless streets. They were always a source of wonder to me, all those relatives and strangers who I sometimes recognized but were often just anonymous grinning faces, gone like the Cheshire cat. Digital images on smart phones, don't fire my imagination nearly as well.

I find it amazing and interesting that I still want to keep old photos that my Dad would otherwise throw away - mind you he has no use for them at his age - but I even kept ones of his older brother who died in 2007. He had so many piled on a TV Tray that was in front of his reclining chair. He was in his late 80's when he passed and we helped my Dad clean out his Apartment. He was such an interesting man.  Some of the best stamp, postcard, and coin collections in North America and all kind of antiques but it was this pile of little photos on the TV Tray that he kept close by at all times. He could pick out one that was buried in an instant.  My husband and I were visiting him one day and he decided to pull out a photo of some of the chaps he worked with at Duplate in Oshawa, Ontario and to our surprise - there was a photo of my husband's uncle sitting with my uncle at his workplace. There is something about the printed image - no matter how old that I am drawn to.  Today - like this family - everyone is in this little phone - hopefully they are backed up somewhere . So many don't ever think they will loose their phone or something will happen that they loose their images. You carry your life in your hand - your happy and sad times - and trust that the technology of today keeps your Memories Safe. But back to my Uncle - I just couldn't throw away all his photos on that TV stand - they were all his memories of those he loved that were gone now, his dear Mother, (my grandmother-Dad's side) whose photo was one he drew out of the pile most often. Before he died and was in hospital, I took some of his favorite images to him to have near him - didn't want him to be lonely.................
