This is half way between documentary and an artistic shot (kind of abstract). In either case I would have liked to see more of the coral, maybe as a whole, then it would be more obvious what it is. The fish on top is good to bring context and let the viewer know what (s)he is viewing, but I find it doesn't add much more to the image and is artistically questionable not favouring the composition.

personally I like the composition Jim. If you are saying Novice - then I discern you have not done this kind of photography often. Well done for a Novice I think!!! the species underwater are amazing to view.
