gregverena 342 Posted July 3, 2016 Michail, we are familiar with landscapes like that, due to mining of coal. We are not sure if you depict a quarry or some kind of mining? Well documented! Link to comment
M_Lipakis 3 Posted July 3, 2016 Thanks for your visit Gregory/Verena. I am afraid my English are so poor that cannot distinguish the difference between quarry-mining, could you please elaborate? Link to comment
morophaenixmau 22 Posted July 4, 2016 To see the nature so outraged it is a great pain. Great documents. Link to comment
gregverena 342 Posted July 4, 2016 Sure- mining usually means extracting (removing) a mineral of some sort, likecoal, iron, copper etc. from the ground or rock. A quarry usually removes stone, like limestone, marble, granite, from a large source of the rock. From your other photos, this looks like a quarry, but not sure what type of stone. We always enjoy your photos!G+V Link to comment
M_Lipakis 3 Posted July 5, 2016 Gregory/Verena, thanks for the clarification. I am not sure but i think too it's a kind of quarry. Link to comment
DavidTriplett 12,682 Posted July 6, 2016 Just by way of counterpoint (being the gadfly that I am): If you can't grow it, you have to mine it. That still begs the question of means, methods, and outcomes. I sometimes wonder if we appreciate how much of our extraordinarily high standard of living depends upon extraction of natural resources, and what components of that standard we are individually and collectively willing to give up in the interest of preserving "natural" conditions. For example, virtually every (and I mean every last bit) of the materials that make up our cameras, lenses, and accessories are products of mining or drilling operations. Michail, I love the compositional balance and colors in this image. Good documentation of a man-made landscape. Well captured and presented, regardless one's position on the aesthetics of the subject. Link to comment
