Another Jack McRitchie original!  Interesting catch.  New camera and lens I detect?  I find using a new lens lights up different receptors in the visual cortex, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, my student gave me his old D-7100 and I'm using it with a 50mm lens. Still having a lot of trouble figuring things out, especially the 50mm is an adjustment for me. I'm really not very tech savvy as you can guess.

Jack, if its an auto focus lens, it should work just like the zoom lenses you are used to except no zoom.  If its manual focus, you have to flip the switch on the front of the camera to "M" for manual.  There are menus in the camera which let you tell it you are using a manual 50mm lens too, and then the metering will be more precise.  The 50mm is great for using at wide f stops and getting the shallow depth of focus.  50's are also very sharp at medium f stops too. Sometimes better than the zooms.  The D7100 is a great camera.  I purchased a D7000 to replace my D80, but quickly upgraded to the D7100 because it had just came out and was more advanced.  I love the 4000x6000 pixel size, making 13.3x20 inch prints at 300 ppi!

I see a computer screen with a windows operating system. Still trying to debug the shadows. I just turned the image 90 degrees Clock-wise and  it gives a different slant.

I want to find some transcendent meaning here.  Surely officialdom is back there somewhere watching us, weeding out the orthodox from the rebels.  On another level, it looks benign, a place where the birds can come in and out, feed, whatever.  Yes, it's a bird drive-by, fly-by.  Surely that's it.

As for the D7100, which I have had for several months but have rarely shot until recently, what I like about it is that it can out-resolve some of my lenses.  So. . . I've taken to putting some of my FX monster zooms on it.

Thanks for the comment. I just returned from a three day trip to Kanazawa, a chance to get away from Osaka and the bustle of big city life for awhile. I brought my 7100 with my Tamron 18-270mm lens. I think the lens has about reached the end of usefulness. It seems to have focusing problems and I'm a little disappointed with the results. I'll post some of the ( literally thousands of) pictures I took when I can shake off the present ennui I have for photonet.
