The pencil as driftwood

Wonderful DOF and subtle reflections with the pencil point being sharply in focus.  The soft color pallete of the background nicely offsets the colors of the pencil.  Terrific still life.

I can feel all the energy and ideas coiled up in that pen, Jack, ready to spring forth and create new worlds on the now barren page.

It may beached, but it also has found a safe harbor.  No rough surf . . .

 

Another outstanding example of simplicity, Jack.  The image is extraordinary in every possible respect that my addled brain can conceive. 

Thanks so much for your words on this picture. For me it was a sort of breakthrough picture since I don't really experiment with DOF much at all and I very much liked the way it turned out. It was taken on the worn and chipped tabletop in my kitchen.
