Moody, edgy, somewhat disturbing composition that, rather than harken to blue skies, open spaces and freedom, rather conjures up an image of oppression, of fences, and a path that runs into an insurmountable obstacle totally out of place in its environs, like an open air prison one remembers from wartime.

Emmanuel you have quite correct felt the intention of this image. In the midst of the European turmoil I was asking the question:

What am I walling in and what am I walling out.

These are barriers that don't divide, not as those that are wanted to do in Europe in this period, and Italy assists them, everybody.  And the nations that lift the walls? A lot of nations don't know history.
