It was five nanoseconds into ionization after the flash, just before the leaves and the clothes erupted in flames, about a minute and a half before the shock wave arrived from Charlotte.  I wandered back inside, for no particular reason.  There would be no way to get away from what was coming.

I seem to have caught a case of the same black flu that's effected you. Your accompanying story puts a very scary spin on the picture. By the way, Lannie, thanks for all the great comments on my pictures and your very kind mention of my work in your comments on various threads. You would think that would really energize me but it had the opposite effect, it sent me into kind of creative depression or at least questioning. This happens with some regularity, kind of like my computer freezing which is happening more often than I'd like but seems to be ok after I reboot. I'm rebooting my psyche right now and should be on an even keel again in no time. I'm also in the process of backing up all my pictures (tens of thousands) on Blue Ray disks and am spending an inordinate amount of time at the computer, becoming a kind of digital hermit, I fear..

(later edit) By the way, what's with that new thread started by Nick Nick? That seemed to be creating a problem where no perceived problem exists - at least none that I can see. I mean, not that aren't disagreements and discrimination in the world at large but I don't find much of that here on pn where most of the time we're pretty civil with one another even though occasionally things descend into name calling and pettiness. I know you spend more time in the forums than I do (you and Fred) and I was curious what you thought about it.

Well, Jack, it does surprise me that that should have been the trigger for another "reboot."  Perhaps the public accolades took your attention away from where it typically is: inside yourself.  I really don't know, but the mind is a funny thing where creativity is concerned.

 

As for that other thread, I am as dismayed as you.  Although I have no idea who "Nick Nick" is or why he is here, he seems like at worst a minor nuisance.  Sometimes the capacity of people to be cruel--anywhere but especially on the web--just sickens me.  Bullies there will always be, I guess, but I will never understand why people seem to enjoy being bullies.  I haven't talked to Fred about it, but he does seem to have recoiled as well.

 

I hope you're okay, Jack.  I've lived in Ecuador for one summer only, and I admire your ability to adapt and live in another culture.
