tm_j 30 Posted May 9, 2016 Thanks for viewing/comments! .. I like the post of this one. Last Friday in 1/2 hour I took almost 500 images of HB and deleted about 350. That still leave over 100 images and probably 20 are decent. After the rain... they came out feeding while some sunny day no where to be seen. Link to comment
gregverena 339 Posted May 9, 2016 Hi Tm,This is great! We wanted to say that the problem with your photos, is that whenever one looks at others bird shots, we immediately compare them to you as the highest standard! Therefore, if there is the slightest thing off with one of yours, it catches one's eye. Ah, the price of excellence! We also enjoyed your whole "tango" series. We look forward to all your postings. tm_j 30 Posted May 10, 2016 Thanks Greg & Verena! It's very kind of you folks. Every time I hear the song 'country road' I think of you folks since for some reason I remember somewhere that you live in West Virginia ? :-) ... and yes I also remember Verena comes from Switzerland .. Link to comment
wobby 0 Posted May 10, 2016 Very nice image - sharp and detailed. TFS and Best regards, Wobby.PS: From what sort of distance you can photograph these birds? Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted May 10, 2016 Thanks Wobby! Glad to hear from you with a very good question and remember Archimedes who said 'give me a lever and I can move the earth'. Almost the same goes with these 4/3's cameras with 1/2 size sensor. If I can be close enough then the quality would be just as good as a fullframe sensor ... crop in half, lol. Normally, I try to shoot from around 10 to 12 feet if I can and I won't shoot if it's further than that because chances are the image quality will suffer (not much real estate on the sensor to crop when you started out with just 1/2 of it). So, most shot that I post are around that distance from the bird (10-12feet) but I will keep moving in slowly as I shoot since the more I closer I can get, the better my image would be . These birds are only about the size of the thump and the 800mm focal view really helps. Link to comment

Giangiorgio Crisponi 452 Posted May 11, 2016 Not only this image but all the last series of Humminbird is really fantastic, ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted May 11, 2016 Grazie Mille Giangiorgio! This combination of Olympus EOM-EM1 + Lumix\Leica 100-400mm is wonderful to shoot Humminbird since the reach of focal view of 800mm is just right, light weight and if the bird is too close .. just zoom back. Also the minimum focus distance of around 4.27 feet (1.3meter) allow very close-up shooting as well. I took almost 500 shots last Friday in about 30 minutes, deleted about 350 and still have to sift through 150 for better images. Unbelievable amount of images (many similar at 10 fps) in 1/2 hour of shooting. Link to comment
