Simplistic but artistic shot of the Back Pak Boys. I like the opening in the fence where the one lad is looking in and the other opening at the beginning of the scene, nice work as usual Jack

Why do i like this photo that much?

Can anyone with deeper knowledge of photography (and human nature) explain it to me in simple English?

Into my favorites until "i get it".

Michail, It may be that you like it because the boys are walking out of the image ( not one of the tenets of composition as I understand it ) and the total lack of colour other than the boys would mean that when they do exit the image nothing will be left ~ has something to do with emotionally expressing the visual passage of time, something which Jack has captured so well in what is a great image. I like the balance of the whiteness of the fence against the receding dark figures of the schoolboys.

I was also struck by the formality and uniformity of their outfits.  My daughter is 16 and in high school (older than these boys, obviously), and I have many occasions on which I am at her school.  There are no formal uniforms or rigid dress codes, yet one can still find a uniformity of clothing styles among certain groups -- in their "individuality" and "freedom" -- who unknowingly conform to a group style, fad, or expectation.

I also would recommend viewing this in its large size.  There is a "feel" to it when seen large that...I'm at a loss to explain.  It may have something to do with the contrast of the fence and the boys, and the high-key appearance, but I would love to see this large, REALLY large, in a gallery.  It would not be amiss and would look very cool.  I too am at a loss as to why, but the more I look at it, particularly in large size, the more it affects me.  How strange....and wonderful.
