Thanks Madeleine! They do this now and then as a form of stretching (may be), I think. I can get them to do this relatively often by making a  'tap tap.. ' with with my tounge.  By themself, they will also do it but it's harder to capture since one never know when .. it may occur.

Thanks Joao! .. but, I have another one that seems even a little bit better :-)  - I like this guy and his tail since not all of them can fan their tail so beautifully like that.

Thanks TmJ, both photos are very nice, you did a excellent work. I would like to have the opportunity to photograph one of these birds...maybe one day...

Muito Obrigado Joao! In Southern California we mostly only have to abundant species of Hummingbird, the Anna & Allens . A few of my friends take trip to Panama on some birdshooting tour to capture more exotic , much more beautiful Hummingbird down in South America.

I do not know how to choose between the two images, both are very beautiful, I like the pose with the tail feathers like a fan, ciao Giangiorgio

Grazie Mille Giangiorgio! Yes, this guy's tail is very beautiful since he can fan out so much more than most bird that I've seen and he seems to like doing this often also.

Thanks Greg & Verena! Nice to hear from you. Where he perches the afternoon sun light him from the left front and that kind of keep him dark on one side. Only when he turns a bit to the left then he get lighted better. I've been thinking of bringing my Rotolight and see if I can light him better :-)
