Under freezing temperatures, the rush is on to complete the loading of

the gear for the season kick-off.Before stacking on board, the traps

have to be baited with mackerel frozen from last fall's catch. Thank

you for your comment-Laurent

Hmmm.. mackerel all packed in 'Product of Japan" boxes?? Something fishy going on here...

Are the square traps for something different than the rounded ones? or just a different style?

A perfect example of global economy when the bait from Japan can be purchased  for less than the mackerel fished by these same fishermen last fall, sold and kept frozen locally for resale. The wooden traps are the old/traditional style fabricated by the fishermen as they have been forever in this area;they fish differently and maybe not as efficiently but some prefer these to the more modern steel mesh traps on the market.

It is pretty hectic at the wharfs on these last days leading to the season opening and full of opportunities for these compositions,a delight for anybody with a camera....but be careful, some of these fishermen/fisherwomen can be edgy at the sight of a camera.
