I'm a sucker for lone trees and mountain backdrops so I quite like this. The light on the low clouds is striking, and you nailed the exposure to keep detail there and let the shadows go. It would be interesting to see what is out of the frame, both top and bottom, a bit more on the bottom would give the tree more weight and prominence.  More of the sky could also work to show the mountains and sense of place. I also think a crop of what you show could work, totally removing the upper mountains, - the bright sky in the upper right does draw the eye away from the tree to an area not as interesting. Nice B&W treatment.

I like the mountains in the distance because they give a sense of huge proportion.  I do agree that the bright light at the top needs toning down to stop drawing the viewer's eye off the image.  But otherwise, I enjoy looking at this image and exploring the many layers.  I also think the tonality is wonderful.
