For ladies only (VIEW LARGE)

I am not a flower photographer, not because I underestimate thatgenre, but because it is too difficult to make a decent flowerpicture

Hope I managed to do it to some extent this time!

sorry, I tried to leave a comment about the beauty of this image but the ladies kept hitting me with their handbags.

Hi Pierre,

Glad you realize how hard it is to get a good shot of a bloom. This is a pretty dahlia and the colors are good, but you want some advice? What's the weird faint outline on the upper right side around the bloom? So. darken all the bg,

the center is totally blurred so you need to probably increase the f stop so more is in focus.  Your light is maybe a tad too bright, making the highlights  quite blown out- could be toned down in PS, or try using a less intense light.  Also, try positioning your light at different angles to see which one gives you the best shadow effect to create the feeling of 3D.

I often take many many trial shots to come up with one I kinda like- which doesn't mean that everyone will like it. If you are going to do this, it would be an excuse for you to invest n a good macro lens as well. It would make it easier than working with the 18- 55.

Gregory, I took a RAW picture and did in the post processing everything you said I should have done, only the light was available and it was three snapshots!

 

AJ, I'm proud that you liked it! But another expert for flower pictures (before you) says differently!
