I think the outcome of any photograph has more to do with the person holding the camera than the equipment.  Excellent shot... Mike

Thanks Mr. Mancil! Thanks for the kind words but it does help to have fast focus and reach which this GX8 does offer some. The focus of this camera is fast at times and at times it has it's own mind. Reach at 800mm field of view is good enough for HB shooting.  I think I can live with this camera since it probably cover 80-90% of birdshots (from perching to slow flying)

Thanks Chris! Good to hear from you, greetings from SoCal!

Nice one, Tm- I agree with your take on equipment- while someone not taking the time or care when photographing will not produce stellar product no matter the equipment, there are somethings that only the right equipment will allow you to do, no matter how well you know how to use it. G

Thanks Greg and Verena! From my observation, a 400mm focal length is minimum to shoot bird, 500mm is better and 600mm is probably more optimum. But, if also depend on the camera, whether it's fullframe, cropped or 1/2 size along with density (how many pixel) since in birdshooting we crop a lot. For me, I like to have at least around 600mm effective focal view and that means a 400mm lens on a 1.5 or 1.6 cropped sensor. However,  I've been more used to shoot with the 500mm on a 1.6 cropped sensor (Canon 7D II + 500mm = 800mm) and that's what I used to base my purchase of the 2 lens : Lumix/Leica 100-400mm with 1/2 size sensor = 800mm . Olympus 300mm F4 PRO on 1/2 sensor = 600mm but I intend to use a 1.4x (which I already bought an Oly MC-14) and that would make it 840mm (600mm * 1.4 = 840mm). So far, my basing on an effective focal view of 800mm (and zoom) is working for me very well. This GX8 being a 1/2 sensor I only like to crop about 1/2 of the frame and it seems to work ok since it got 20mp but I would rather get fullframe so I can match the quality of what I am used to of the Canon 7D II + 500mm on a 1.6 cropped sensor. This 1/2 frame sensor only has 68% in area compares to the 1.6 cropped sensor of the 7D Mark II , btw. These 1/2 size sensor also make more noise than larger sensor from my observation since I started out with digital images shooting with the Oly E410 back in 2008.
