Supriyo, Nice shot . Great as it is but I would also try lightening the shadows  little and cropping down from the top about a quarter ( down to the second rafter ). Rgds. Rick

I just visited this mission about 10 days ago! I was on my way from San Francisco to Palm Springs and spent an afternoon and a night in Santa Barbara.  I kind of like the way the ceiling plays overall in the photo. It has a graphic yet rhythmic feel which helps, for me, to create the sense of space. The indoor/outdoor capture helps create a sense of place. One of the more beautiful aspect of a lot of these old missions is the texture of the walls and the way light is present, both inside and outside. I think this gives a nice feel for that.

Hi Rick,

Thank you very much for suggestions. I will try them and may be post a new version.

Hi Fred,

Thank you very much. I am happy you commented about the ceiling, it is an important aspect of this image. Usually I will not include the ceiling to this extent, but here I think it works. This is my first time to this mission, and I don't think I have done enough justice to it. However I got enough motivation to return at a later date.

Supriyo; This has a very formal, even painterly effect in the composition. The nice balance of interior and exterior exposure speaks to this as well, since this kind of breadth and balance is so hard to master. I suspect this would also work very well as a B&W, as for so many of your other images at this and other missions. I still think you could clone out the sticker in the lower-right corner of the window. The beams add good rhythm and texture. The light works very well to accentuate the materiality inherent in all of the surfaces. Well done.

David,

Thank you for your kind comment. I think the painterly effect is also due to the fact that the setup of this room is so elegantly organized. i agree about the red sticker in the window. I remember, you mentioned it before also. I have cloned it out in the Lightroom original.

Another of your inside/outside photos. You manage to strike an excellent balance between available light inside and the bright sunlight outside. Really top quality work.
