I was out there today, not having seen this old bridge for manyyears--and the surveyors were already at work! Arghh!

It's getting to be I don't even have to read the name to recognize your pictures. They really bear the imprint of your style and view of the small town rural environment. I always feel sad when these old war horses are replaced - whether they need to be or not - it's like piece of my world and myself is demolished as well. Someday there will be almost nothing left we can take comfort in and then it will be time to go.

Thanks, Jack.  I never thought much about my style, but as I walked the trails yesterday I realized just how much I love the detail of the earth--the texture of the rock, the trees, the very dirt itself.  I am not sure why that appeals to me so much--especially regarding the detail of such ordinary things, either in nature itself, or in nature reclaiming pavement or buildings or anything else which is man-made.  I don't know if any of that results in repetitive themes or techniques that we call "style."

Most of us just photograph things that interest us in some ways, and very often in ways that please us as well. I can spot one of your photos, for example, not to mention a John Peri nude (which I actually like very much, including the obvious rapport which he enjoys with his models, and which he clearly captures for the rest or us).

In any case, it is nature that pleases me, especially when it is winning, when the earth is reclaiming its own.
