Out to do some errands and brought the camera in hopes of finding

these guys close to the road. These at around 50 yards.

Clearly, if I want really good bird shots, I'm going to have to carry the

much disliked tripod. These all hand held, D 750, old model Nikon

80-400 VR.

Thanks for looking, Comments / Crits. appreciated..

Sandy; 400mm is a long shot without a tripod. Have you tried this on a crop sensor? Or, do you have a teleconverter you can add? Still, very good job hand-held. Any chance of getting these guys with a higher contrast background? Well done, and keep them coming.

David, thanks!  I do have (old) longer lenses and a 2x teleconverter, as well as a recently acquired Ricoh GXR mirrorless crop sensor which takes the lenses.  Will be bringing the tripod and trying again.  They will be in the same background, but it will green up after a while. "If at first you don't succeed...."  They will keep coming as long as the birds are around.
